The increasing demand for fish as a foodstuff and Austria’s associated strategy for the promotion of fish farms is paving the way for an appealing source of income for agricultural enterprises as well as providing newcomers to this sector with a possibility of effectively investing their capital.
To cover its domestic fish demand, Austria is dependent to 95 percent on imports, as much as 60 percent from Asian production. To counteract this trend, the “Aquaculture 2020” strategy for the promotion of Austrian fish production” has been developed. Its aim is to sustainably develop Austrian aquaculture projects.
